Ulrikka Klarskov Kjær

Ulrikka Klarskov Kjær (Danish, born 1963) joined the Board of Directors in PILA PHARMA in late 2017 due to her unique competences within health economics and sustainable global development.

Ulrikka Klarskov Kjær provides significant experience to PILA PHARMA within health economics, optimisation of drug development processes (cost, time, quality), global health care reforms, and sustainable global development. These competencies are important for PILA PHARMA in order to evaluate the economic value of the health benefits of our current development candidate.

Ulrikka holds a double degree with an MSc in Health Economics (1997) as well as an MA in African Studies (1997), both from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. In addition, she was initially trained as a state registered nurse (1988), and she has extensive continuous education including a leadership course (2007) and Black Belt lean/six sigma (2008).

Ulrikka is driven by an aspiration to deliver more and better health with fewer resources thereby contributing to increased public health and sustainable global development. Her working experience includes management positions and consultancy within the public and private health care sectors in Denmark as well as in developing countries. Her previous positions include: CEO/Chief Consultant, Kjaer Management (2010-2017); Lean Specialist in Global Development, Novo Nordisk (2007-2010); Chief Consultant, Public Sector Development, Ramboll Management (2006-2007); Director of Health and Social Affairs, Ledoje-Smorum Municipality (2003-2006); Management Consultant/Controller, Economics Department, Birkerod Municipality (2000-2002); Head of Section in Economics and Statistics Department, Ministry of Health (1999-2000); Junior Professional Officer, Directorate of Health Care Commissioning and Financing at Central Board of Health in Zambia, seconded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Denmark to a Danida Health Sector Support Programme (1997-1999). Team Leader, Home based Care, Rodovre Municipality (1989-1993), Paediatric Care, University Hospital (1988-1989).

Ulrikka’s key competencies are: Health economic evaluation, business process development, project management of high complexity projects, and programmes in large organisations. Furthermore, she has extensive experience within the health care systems and socio-economic challenges in developing countries, Africa in particular.

These competencies are all important for PILA PHARMA to assess whether the relationship between the expected value of a drug for the patients and the costs for the investors will enable us to set a reasonable price. Only this way, we believe, will enable us to deliver affordable drugs to a larger part of the world’s population, who are suffering from diabetes and obesity-related disease, and at the same time yield a reasonable return of investment.
