Lars F. Gram

Lars Freng Gram, until his retirement in 2001, was an internationally recognized researcher in clinical pharmacology. He spent the last 23 years of his career as Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark.

Lars Freng Gram, has been engaged in several fields of clinical pharmacology research; including pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, pharmacogenetics related to CYP-specific drug metabolism, clinical trials, psychopharmacology, antidepressants, adverse drug reactions and pharmaco-epidemiology. Associated with the Danish National Board of Adverse Drug Reactions, as medical secretary (1972 – 77) and as board member (1988 – 2001) he obtained extensive knowledge of this field. In the 1980ies in Odense, he initiated a research program on pharmaco-epidemiology, which has become highly recognized internationally. He was adviser for a long range of dr. med. and ph. d. students. Subsequently, seven of these students have become full professors in various medical disciplines; general medicine, neurology, pharmacoepidemiology and clinical pharmacology.

Lars Freng Gram was born in Norway 1938. In 1965 he obtained his MD degree. In 1977, he recieved a Dr.Sci (dr.med) degree from University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Between, 1965 – 71 he had clinical training largely at Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark, in cardiology, surgery, neurosurgery, internal medicine, neurology and psychiatry. Between, 1971-74 he was adjunct professor at the Psychochemistry Institute and from 1974 to 1978 he was associate professor at the Institute of Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. During 1977-78, he was Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Psychiatry at University of Pittsburgh, USA. Finally he was professor of Clinical Pharmacology in Odense 1978 -2001, and from 2001: Emeritus Professor.

Lars Freng Gram has been a member of the editorial boards of: European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Journal of Neural Transmission and co-editor on 6 books in the series Clinical Pharmacology in Psychiatry.

Lars Freng Gram has published about 260 publications in the fields of pharmacokinetics/genetics, drug metabolism, clinical trials, antidepressants, psychopharmacology, adverse drug reactions, pharmaco-epidemiology.
